CONTINUE DELVING INTO THE COMPLEXITY OF CHARACTERS
Readers, for homework, read and think about the main character in your book. How does he or she interact with others? How does he or she act in some settings, situations, and relationships? How does he or she act differently in other contexts? As you think, also refer to the questions about character below.

Questions to Think More about Characters...
•  How do other characters act toward my character?
•  How does my character act differently with different characters—and why?
•  What am I realizing about my character’s relationships?
•  What changes am I noticing in my character? What’s causing them?

Look for connections among your initial thoughts. Then come up with a theory about the main character’s relationships. Jot the theory on a Post-it. Find more text evidence to support your theory. Then ask yourself, “Does more than one character fit my theory?” Jot your thoughts on Post-its or in your reading notebook. Then post your response on the blog this week!

My character Dashiell is very brave and helpful. I think this because he sticks up to these bullies who bully everyone. Since he took up to them they don't bully anyone. He is also brave and helpful because he had to go through a space junk shower to help these adults fix there visors. He is also a little secretive because he is in contact with an alien. He lied to his sister to keep Zan the alien a secret.

Hey! I am reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The character that I chose was Charlie. When Charlie is around his grand father he is kind and a good listener. I know this because in the text it says That when Charlie was listening to the story that his grind father was telling he was asking question and listening very well. This tells me that Charlie is a good listener and he is kind because when you listen to someone you ask questions like he did, you also are being kind because if you are listening and asking questions you make the person who's is talking make them feel good. I can't wait to keep on reading.

Harvey is soft around Sara (Tommys girl friend) but is rough and a jerk otherwise

Hi! This week I have been reading a book called Finally. I chose the character Rory. She is really kind but determined most of the time. But when she is with her friends she usually acts like them. Kinda sassy and bossy.

Hi! This is Wills. I am reading Hollow City by Ransom Riggs. The character I chose was Jacob. Around his friends he is kind and reassuring. However, when he is alone he is pessimistic. I think he is like this because he wants to keep his friends happy and hopeful. But he is sometimes scared at what will happen to them.

Hi! I am reading a book called Dork Diaries and the character I chose is Nikki. I think she is kind of brave and funny. I think she is brave because she stood up to a bully that would not stop bullying her. She is funny because she danced to a Queezy Cheesy song. She acts so nice around her friends, but when she is around Mackenzie she is trying to standup for herself.

Hi! I am reading a book called The Trumpet of the Swan. My character is Louis. When Louis isn't with sam, he is normally playing water games with the swans, and sometimes he feel left out when the swans are screaming and shouting because he can't. In the text it says, "He liked to compete with other cygnets to see who could swim underwater the greatest distance and stay down the longest. Everybody else was screaming except for Louis." When Louis is with Sam, He always seems to be happy, while joyfully having fun with him. In the text it says, "Next morning, Sam took Louis happily to school with him. Sam rode his pony and Louis flew along with him!"

Anna,
Great work finding the complexity in your character! What does it tell you about Sam when he feels left out? What character trait would you give him? Does he wish he was a swan? What would this tell you about him?

I am reading a book called Rules. The character I chose to write about is David. He has autism. Inside, David is trapped. He wants to say something but he can't find the right words. On the outside, he screams and makes noises because he is frustrated. On the inside my character wants to interact with others but on the outside he pulls away from people. I am realizing that David has more and more challenges in each chapter. I think his sister, Catherine should help David make a friend. David has trouble in different settings. For example, David behaves better at home than in therapy. He plays with his sister at home and likes to be around his mom. When David is with the Occupational Therapist he is shy and does not seem to like the therapist. His dad tells him she will take him to the video game store after he does therapy.

Hi! I am reading a book called the Land of Stories my character is the evil enchantress she is definitely mean for example she wants to take over the world. She often lets out her feelings at her hut known as her home. For example one time in the book by the fire place were she was standing looking at these gars that had souls in it those were people that she would trust to carry her heart but they betrayed her. She has had a good past but something went wrong and that changed her future also every body just assumes that she was born evil but they are wrong she has had a bad past.

The book i'm reading is the 26 story tree house. Andy is a really nice kid because in the book he is never mean. He also gets distracted a lot. Like this one time he was going to have marshmellows then he looks at another thing and totally forgets about what he really wanted. that is what I think about Andy.

Ava, Great job identifying character traits.
How did your character change? I am curious!
Can you use text evidence to prove that he is brave?

Today. Yes today. I'm reading Mockingly. Let's add that to my rhyme book. Guy, I reading Mockingly The final book of the Hunger Games Trilogy. Let the 76th Hunger Games... BEGIN! My character is Gale. He acts more normal when he's around Katniss orPrim, but he's very, very serious when around Beetee, Coin, or even Finnick. I think this is because when he's around Beetee or Coin he's working, and when he around Finnick, well he really thinks Finnick and Katniss are all smoochy smoochy. Another thing I noticed is that when ever 13 needs volunteers, he sees right up.

I am reading a book called Judy Moody it is about a girl named Judy and is always in a bad mod. Also she always has trouble doing things for example filling out her homework she never has a desire to do naughty things for example pranking stink one time she scared stink by making scary shadow puppets. That was the funniest moment of her life.

Story Thieves
Character: Owen

Bethany does not like Owen because Owen is not very nice to her. Owen always lies to her and Bethany does not like it. Owen acts different to Kiel by being truthful and helpful because Kiel is Owen’s favorite character ever and does not want to disappoint him. I am realizing that Owen does not have a good relationship with Bethany and does have a good relationship with Kiel and Majester. Majester is also one of Owen’s favorite characters because he can do magic and is awesome looking with his cape and wand. Owen has been getting more demanding the more he is in the fiction world.

To be continued...

I am reading a book called Woof. Birdie can act differently depending on the situation. When people are mean to her or her dog, she is nice back, but not super nice. If people are nice to her, she is super nice back.

In Percy's dreams Anabeth is still alive then he comes to a conclusion that Anabeth is still alive. So go's on a quest WITH OUT PERMISSION! He follows a CAMP HALF-BLOOD van to find Anabeth and Artemis the goddess of the hunt. Sorry I am late.
