PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER
Readers, tonight is the night for you to put all that you have learned together. Let your book really mean something to you. Flip back to the first pages of your book to read again how it all began. Last week we realized how moving it is to read those initial lines with eyes that made the story’s journey in Tiger Rising. What was just a sign the first time around is now so much more. So if you are near the end of your book, push to finish so you can do this amazing work. However, rereading earlier parts will always pay off even if you are not at the end of your book. Keep in mind all that you have learned to read interpretively. Use the charts below to help you make interpretations. Remember that to do this high-level work, you’re going to think about not just the chapters you are reading but the whole text. Keep reading, rereading, and thinking. Good luck!

I just finished my book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Then I fliped back to the very first page, and it introduced all of the characters and the setting. This is important because if you don't know the setting or the characters you will not understand any of the book. The begging of the story always sets the mood, and the setting tells you when and were everything started.

I finished the chocolate touch recently, and I flipped back all the way to the first page. It introduced the characters. The main one was John Midas and they introduced how he liked candy so much.........not so much at the end though! The important thing is the characters because if you don't know them then you don't know who, what, when, why, where, the story is taking place. Always know your characters!

Yes, I strongly agree with you that you need to know the characters in the beginning of the book to know what is happening in later parts of the book. But think about this, in non-fiction texts can't you flip to any page because there are new facts on each page? What do you think and Why?

I recently just finished a book called Dork Diaries and then I flipped to the beginning and it introduced the main character which is Nikki, Chloe, and Zoey. Then at the end it was talking about the talent show that she was really close to winning but didn't win.

That is really important to the book because nobody would know who was who and what happened to them.

Which girl was close to winning? How did she act?

Sophie, I had trouble understanding what that had to do with the talent show....I didn't think that has to do with any of the characters..... I would strongly enjoy if you could elaborate on that... good try though, I like how you attempted so well on that, I kind of agree thought because after all, you do make a pretty good point that you wouldn't know who was in the talent show or attempting!

I am still reading the book called The Tail of Emily Windsnap. In the first chapter Emily begged her mom for swimming lessons for the first time. But as I read on she didn't want to swim because of her secret of becoming a mermaid. Later in the book, Emily meets a real mermaid named Shona. She is helping Emily find out where her dad has gone. Some important clues are the key to the files, a pebble, and Emily's mom's journal. I wonder if in the second half of this book Emily's mom gets her memory back and her dad is found. Maybe Emily will then find out why she is a mermaid.

I am finished with Story Thieves! So when I went back to the first chapter it introduces Owen at school at his math class and then he goes straight to the library. This matters because if he didn’t go to the library he wouldn’t have seen Bethany climb out of the book which if he didn’t see that then he wouldn’t have gone into the Kiel Gnomenfoot book. Basically that’s what the whole book is about because he travels into the book and then once the book ends he makes himself look like Kiel with magic and then he is in another one of their books which is the newest one.

See you in the next book!

I am reading One Dog and His Boy and it is about a boy named Hal who finds a dog named Fleck at a store, Easy Pets. But it's a rent-a-pet agency, so Hal rescues Fleck. I made it to the part where Hal gets to the cottage by the sea. It turns out that Hal never knew Fleck was rented until his dad, Donald, returned Fleck at the beginning, which started the whole thing.

I am reading Magnus Chase book two, and Imflipped back to the first page. Ultimately it introduced Magnus Chase, son of Frey. It also introduces Valkyrie Samirah Al-Abbis as well as trusty sword/pendant Sumarbrandar, also known as Jack. It starts with Magnus meeting up with Sam and Sam going to find an important person. Then Magnus meets Otis the goat. Otis gets killed, which started the entire story.

HI guys I am reading a book called The Tail of Emily Windsnap I think that Shona gave Emily the friendship rock because she really has faith in them finding her dad. I think this is a important part in the book because Emily probably needs a friend to give her a boost in her confidence which I would at this situation.
