Dear Poets,
This week I would like you to find a favorite poem. I would like you to bring in that poem to share with the class. If you don't have a favorite, then just bring in any poem that you like. Remember that poems can show up in a lot of places. If you would like to do some searching, here are a few websites you can go to:

Have fun! I can't wait to hear your poems! : )

---Warning--
by Shel Silverstein
Inside everybody's nose
There lives a sharp-toothed snail.
So if you stick your finger in,
He may bite off your nail.
Stick it up farther inside,
And he might bite your ring off.
Stick it all the way, and he
May bite the whole darn thing off.

My favorite poem is called My Beard. It goes like this. My beard grows to my toes, I never wear no clothes, I wrap my hair around my bare, and down the road I goes. I like this poem because it is funny and creative.

My favorite poem is by Shel Silverstein and it is called WHATIF? Here it is:
Last night, While I was thinking here,
Some what if's crawled inside my ear,
And pranced and partied all night long
And sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif Green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lighting strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow any taller?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?

The rest of the poem is very long..but here is the starting of it...! You will hear the rest in class when we all share our poems!

Ourchestra
So you haven't got a drum, just beat your belly.
So I haven't got a horn- I'll play my nose.
So we haven't any cymbals-
We'll just slap our hands together.
And though there may be orchestras
That sound a little better
With their fancy shiny instruments
That cost an awful lot-
Hey,we're making music twice as good
By playing what we've got!

My favorite poem is the lineup.

The first hitter is the arsonist, he starts the fire.
The 2 hitter is the body guard, he's all about the sacrifice.
The third hitter is the variety show, he's got many talents.
The fourth hitter is the car pool, he brings everyone home.
The fifth hitter is the gambler, he's all or nothing.
The six through eight hitter are the gumps, you never know what you're gonna get.
The ninth hitter is the VP.
If the first hitter goes down he takes the lead.

My favorite poem is by Shel Silverstein also and it is called Peanut-Butter Sandwich. I have always liked this poem which is funny since I am allergic to nuts! It starts like this...
I'll sing you a poem of a silly young king
Who played with the world at the end of a string
But he only loved one single thing-
And that was just a peanut-butter sandwich.
(I will bring in the rest of the poem to share).
