REFLECTING AND SETTING NEW GOALS
Readers, for homework, tonight I am asking you to pause and think about your nonfiction reading work. You have spent more than a week reading nonfiction. Now is a good time to self-reflect. Ask yourself:
•   What are things you now do to get ready to read a nonfiction text?
•   When you finish reading, are you able to teach someone using an explaining voice, a teaching finger, gestures, intonation?
•   What is and isn’t working for you? What do you do well, and what are you working on that you could get better at?
•   Set a goal for yourself as a non-fiction reader.

When I am getting ready to read a non-fiction text I read the cover and think about the topic it will teach me about. I feel that when I finish a non-fiction book I teach the topic to other people and I like telling people surprising facts. I am good at figuring out tough words and finding the meaning of the word, I can work on finding the text structure.

I look at the cover too. Sometimes the cover gives me a hint, but sometimes its just a picture of the person or topic.

When I get ready to read my non-fiction text I always look at the title and think to myself "what do I know about my topic? Then I alway write down a question on what I am going to read about. After that I will pre view the book and look at sub heading to see what I will be learning about. After I do all of that I always ask myself what do I think I am going to learn in my book. I can't wait to start my new book tonight!

I choose non-fiction books by the topics I like or books that are recommended. I just finished a book about Pirates. My brother recommended it and I learned about famous pirates in history. I can tell you all about the parts of the ships and people like Captain Kidd and Anne Bonnie. It was exciting to read. The hardest part about reading non-fiction books to me is being able to pronounce words I don't know and then figuring out what they mean. A goal for me would be to look up words right away when I don't know them.

Before I start reading a new non-fiction book, I ask myself, what do I already know about this topic? Also, I look at that back cover to read the main thing that I will read. If I already know all of the stuff on the back cover, I look for a different book, Then I think, how might this connect with the book that I am reading? I always read intensely so that I can jot new ideas that I didn't know about that that topic. Something that I could work on is writing down a prediction before I start reading the book if it is something that I already know about.

Some things to help me to get ready to read a non fiction book is to read the back of the book, and look ahead of the book! I'm reading non fiction to help me with expository writing, and to help me get better at summarizing. Reading non fiction also helps me select the text structure, but at the same time I have to work on choosing the right structure that is most the appropiate word that fits in my summary

Before i start reading a non-fiction book I look at the cover and preview the book (think about what I know about the topic) then if it has a back blurb I read it to see what i will be learning about. If it does not have a blurb I look through the book (scan through book), yes when i am done reading i am able to use a teaching finger and a convincing tone, I am able to do this when I learn a really interesting fact that i have read a lot about and feel really prepared, lastly i do well at reading a book and when I come across a interesting fact i am ready to share. I need to work on being prepared with a good fact and not a fact that a lot of people know.

When I get ready to read a Non- Fiction book I read try to use my back round knowledge about the book! I also look at the table of contents and think ahead of what the chapters are maybe going to talk about. And from know on I will need the back of the book!

To get ready to read a non-fiction text I look at the back of the book to see if it is a topic that I am interested in and don't know a lot about. After that I try to make connections to the book. If I do not find any connections then I try to find a different book. A goal for me as a non-fiction reader is to find the text structure in my book to help me take notes.

To get ready, I usually look at the cover of the book, as well as the table of contents. This will give me a general idea what the book talks about. I also read the first page, which is usually shows what level the book is, and usually how the book is structured.

Hi guys. Miss Holden. Michael. Cannon. I have been thinking about setting a goal for nonfiction texts that I have been reading, and it is to read more actually difficult books each time I read them, kind of like A-Z. Also, Michael, bring a Star Wars LEGO minifigure tomorrow.

So my I have been making some goals to read a new non- fiction books. My first one is to read the first to pages of the book so than you can see if you want to read the rest of the book, but if it does not hook the reader than do not read it. My last thing was to read the back of it so than you can get the non-fiction book so you can know what is happening.

I hope you can do my goals so they can become your goals too.

When I am getting ready to read a non fiction book I always think about what I am interested in learning about and then I look at the cover to see if it is interesting, then I read about the author and I read the back. (about the book) The next thing I do is I flip around the inside of the book and see if it is too hard for me.

I get ready to read a nonfiction book by reading the title and thinking what I already know about this topic. When I finish the book, in my head I compare what I knew before I read the book and what I know after I read the book.
When I finish a book I can talk long and strong.I can keep elaborating when a partner asks me a question. I can summarize what I read and make a box and bullet summary on it.I am getting better at talking and elaborating ideas in my head. I am trying to answer sometimes I can't. I could get better at that.

I get my book on topics I like. When I finish a book I can teach someone with a pointing finger. My strength in reading is vitalization. A growth I want to work on writing reading responses. For example, when ever I write a reading response it's always really short.

Hi🙂When I am getting ready I always will read the back blurb. I also will always preview the book. I also like to see the topic and if that's what I would like too learn about, and if it is interesting. For example in a book store like Barnes and nobles this is what I do if I am looking for non fiction text. This is how I know if my nonfiction book is right for me.🤓👍🏻

When I pick up a non fiction book I love to preview the book. I look at the first few pages and think, " Is this to easy?" Or I ask myself " Is this something I might be interested in?" If I think it sounds pretty interesting and it's something think I'm gonna read, I read the back blurb, this helps me think about what's going on and if THAT might interest me. That Is how I get ready to read a non fiction book.
