TALKING ABOUT YOUR CHALLENGE BOOK READING
Readers, tonight, as you read a nonfiction text or two, keep reading and tackling the hard parts of your challenge books. You might also take a moment this evening to talk about your books with a reading friend or family member. Researchers who study learning say that talking about reading is one of the most powerful things you can do to become a better reader. Some possible points of discussion could be:
•   Talk about your book’s subject. What are you learning? What does your family know about your topic?
•   Talk about how your nonfiction book is challenging in a good way. What’s tricky? How are you tackling reading challenges?

Enjoy your conversations!

~Ms Holden, are we just supposed to tell you about are book this week because there are no instructions. If so I will just tell you about it below.

~I am just starting Pandas and other endangered spiecies. In my chapter that I am reading right now, it is explaining to me how many other animals other than just pandas, are endangered to being extinct. For example, even TIGERS ARE ENDANGERED! Could you imagine what it would be like without tigers?!

I am reading a book called Germ Hunter: A story about Louis Pasteur. It is about Louis Pasteur becoming a scientist while discovering and curing diseases. I am learning that he invented the rabies shot and if you take the shot too late you will die. But if you take it close to when you've been bitten then you will live. Another important scientific invention the book talked about by Louis Pasteur is pasteurization. My dad is a pediatrician and he says that the pasteurization technique keeps food healthier by killing bacteria. This book is interesting but challenging because it is hard to read the medical words.

Hey guys, I am reading a book about the Forces of Nature. It is about storms and earth quakes and volcanoes. It talks about what might cause it how t might cause another storm, or how you know (with some sort of a sign) it is here or it is coming. For example it talked about the different type of clouds and what they mean, like if a thunderstorm is coming or just a little drizzle. The book also has many interesting facts like how a thunderstorm is caused.

My non-fiction book is called 1,111 answer to everything. I am learning a lot of facts about different things. I learned that in the medieval ties lords and ladies built castles to show off their wealth. Also to become a knight you have to leave your family at age 7 to go to a king to begin training. There are many more facts that I'm excited to read!

I was reading a book called something like "Wanted Dumb or Alive" and it was about robbers who where really stupid and things like that. I learned that no matter how perfect you think you or plan is, there will always be a flaw. Like this one guy stole $75,000 dollars worth of toilet paper, ran right out of the store into a movie scene. In the scene, there were cops, and the robber thought the cops were real cops. But eventually the actors realized and called security.

Note to self: put translation in parentheses. Note to self: these are not the number of sentences. Hurrgh rooaar. Hurrgh hurgh hurgh roaar. (In Human Body,a very detailed book about the human body [hence the title], it uses chronological order to state several facts, like:
a. protein is generated inside your body, the stuff in food is the chemicals to make it.
Also, b. there are 5 types of white blood cells. However, I am not-I repeat, NOT-going to say them all, just Basophil, which sounds kind of like basil.)

I am reading a book called Tornadoes. I learned that tornadoes are rated from EF1 to EF5. This rating is based on how strong the tornado is. An EF1 tornado can just about blow a chicken coop down and that is all. An EF5 tornado can rip open a city.
I tackle my non fiction book by making sure it makes sense. I either read slowly or I re-start the sentence or page over. That way nothing is confusing.
~Too many facts on a page. Page 38
~Too many things I don't need to know. Every page

Hello once again people of earth. In my Non Fiction reading life I am reading about Gandhi. Gandhi starved himself for his country of India. He was sent to jail 6 times to help his country. I tackle my book by visualizing that I am Gandhi. Something that is confusing or challenging in my book is understanding some of Gandhi's kings or princes. For example their Indian leader looks like she has 4 arms, and 4 eyes.
