SUMMARIZING PARTS NON-FICTION TEXTS:
Readers, this week you have been researching on your weather topics. Tonight, read over some your research notes and write a summary about your topic. Remember that a strong summary includes the authors main idea and key supporting details.
You many want to use boxes and bullets to help you organize your summary before you write it. You could also use compare/contrast, problem/solution, cause/effect, or sequential notes to help you before you write. Once you have your notes written, write a summary about the topic.

Here is an example of a summary:

In this part of ancient greece and olympics, the author was explaining how way back when, when the olympics were just starting, only men from ancient greece were aloud to participate in the olympics. Not even every man. If you had submitted a crime, you weren't able to. All of this shows that the olympics are more fair now, and back then, people weren't fair and they didn't believe women were strong enough to compete in the olympics.

Tornadoes are made from cold and warm air that come together and then it starts spinning inside a cloud. The air keeps spinning until it pushes out of the cloud forming a funnel. The air in the funnel keeps spinning and pushing down ‘till it reaches the ground. Then it is an official tornado. The tornado keeps spinning but instead of staying in place it starts moving forward.

Have you ever been in a tornado Reese? My grandmother grew up in Joplin, Missouri and she went back to visit her home town after the major tornado damaged the town five years ago.

Tornadoes are mixed with warm and cold. So when you feel like it is really cold but warm it might mean that a tornado is going to happen or it is just the weather or you. But you sometimes don't know when a tornado is happen. So look at the news and you can see when it can happen

In my notes I read it talks about how the tectonic plate are always moving and crash into each other sometimes. When they crash into each other push on each other, then pressure builds up and they break apart. When they break apart it sends a force up the surface which causes an earthquake. There are lots of mini earthquakes everyday, but we can't feel them.

In the book Surviving Hurricanes, the author writes true stories about children who have survived the most dangerous hurricanes on earth. A hurricane is a tropical storm caused by heavy rain and strong winds. The book describes some of the largest hurricanes over the last one hundred years and the cost of rebuilding towns. Overall the book tells what to do to prepare for a hurricane and how to survive the destruction afterward.

In What Was Pearl Harbor, a few men were knocked out when bombs hit. When one man woke up, he swam to help other boats. One helped men into lifeboats, and then went to help other people. These acts of bravery saved many people from being killed.

In my non-fiction Roberto Clemente Roberto says that it is unfair that blacks are separated from whites. I know this because his team said that they didn't put him on the starting line up because he was black and he got really mad.

In my book Serena and venus it explains about school work and tennis . What is so weird is that there parents (brandi and richard williams) only want them to get As. If they got B's then they both couldn't play tennis for a little bit . BYE BYE

Right now I am reading a book called The Science of a Tsunami by Robin Koontz. In the text he explains that tsunamis are very destructive, can travel far, and destroy people's houses. Tsunamis are very destructive weather effects. They flood everything near the coast and destroy homes, buildings, roads and bridges. Tsunamis can also travel very far. They can travel 3,000 miles before crashing into the coast, and destroying buildings. Robin Koontz says that tsunamis can destroy peoples homes leaving them with nothing.

In the book I am reading about hurricanes it tells me about how hurricanes can severely damage your house, tare down trees, break walls, and way more. It taught me that hurricanes can cause floods and risk people their lives. In the book I am reading it told me that hurricanes mostly happen in the summer. In a hurricane the winds go up to 75 miles per hour. I would recomened to stay away from any place that can have a hurricane.

In my book I am reading about how much damage they do and what causes them in the book it said "earthquakes are caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves that make the ground shake. When two blocks of rock or two plates are rubbing against each other, they stick a little. ... When the rocks break, the earthquake occurs." what this means is...that that is how a earthquake causes and that can also cause landslides, mudslides, avalanches and tsunamis.(it also said that in the book).

In the book that I am reading about floods it lists many cool facts and amazing features along with awesome pictures of the worlds scariest floods. One very cool fact I learned is that 4 people that were on vacation and came right after the yellow river flood and had to live on their roof until the water drained out of their house and until all of the airports were open to take them home.

In my non fiction reading book. Gandhi is not so thrilled about the British ruling India. This is because the British rule India poorly, and unfairly. For example the Salt Act was unfair because the people of India had to pay for Salt when they could just collect it. On April 7 Gandhi broke the law by simply picking up a lump of salt from mud. This was at the Arabian sea. Gandhi tried very hard to make his country great again, although gandhi had to starve himself and be sent to jail 6 times. After all this gandhi achieved his goal, although he was shot on January 30.

They are one of the most dangerous natural disasters. These are some facts on earthquake. I should write tis in my notes on monday.

In Human Body by Dan Green, you can find many facts and tidbits of information. Example: white blood cells. I found lots of information and from this I am creating a book that is based entirely on this chapter with lots and LOTS of elaboration. Also, this book shares information on stuff like enzymes and other aspects of the body.

I am mostly researching on the computers, but when I do read books I push them to the side if the book doesn't give a lot of info. Yet tornadoes are extremely dangerous weather and can pick up to very very high wind speeds.🌪🌪💨

In my book the author is trying to tell me that tsunamis can be very bad! I think this because all of the paragraphs she's done are all the bad things they can do!
